Mt. Longonot National Park
The park was formed around Mt.Longonot, a young dormant volcano. This was during the formation of Great Rift Valley. The longonot is derived from a Maasai world Oloonong’ot meaning mountains of many spurs or steep ridges.
The sides of the mountains have beautiful V-shaped valleys and ridges. The stony soils have little vegetation but the crater has an impenetrable forest.
At Longonot one has a view of Aberdare Ranges, Lake Naivasha, Hell’s Gate N. Park and its fisher’s tower, Mau escarpment, Mai Mahiu, Mt. Suswa, Mt.Magret, Ngong hills, Kijabe and Flyover Naivasha-Nairobi new road.
It’s accessible all year round and takes only 2 hours to drive from the Capital City, Nairobi.
